Cajun country lies just west of New Orleans in the great state of Louisiana. This week, the Photo Crusades will delve into the lives of its residents through the photography of Lucius Fontenot.
In addition to highlighting Louisiana artists and food through his commercial photography, Lucius has spent most of his life photographing what he believes is part of his “inherited memory” – the Courir de Mardi Gras and the boucherie. Near Lafayette, he grew up surrounded by these two events, using his art to fully understand his culture. At first glance, an outsider might see Lucius’s Cajun country images as odd and dark, but to those involved, it’s just a way of life.
Let’s see how Lucius’s immersion in his heritage translates into this week’s theme of the Photo Crusades
